The Request
To design a unique exhibition project that would facilitate cultural outreach with a school group while highlighting the site’s historical and heritage mission.

The Proposed Project
During two in-class workshops, fourth-grade students from Guillaume-Mathieu School painted abstract shapes on wooden slats and drew the buildings and trades of the Trait-Carré on paper. From there, the slats were assembled to create arch-like structures, a shape that echoes several elements of the neighborhood: the division of the Trait-Carré’s land, the church’s windows… Suspended in the attic of the mill, it looks pretty cool!

Some elements from the students’ drawings also appear in my three large canvases, like a “seek-and-find” game.

It’s a wonderful way to showcase the students’ imagination while sharing a few historical facts along the way.

This project was made possible thanks to the support of the City of Québec.
